Symptoms of Adenomyosis and Its Relationship with Dyspareunia (Painful Intercourse)

Symptoms of Adenomyosis and Its Relation to Painful Intercourse

  1. Abnormal or heavy menstrual bleeding.
  2. Very painful menstrual periods.
  3. Pain during intercourse.
  4. Bleeding between menstrual cycles.
  5. Anemia (resulting from blood loss), which leads to fatigue, dizziness, and blurred vision.
  6. Persistent headaches.

At least 10% of women with adenomyosis suffer from deep dyspareunia (pain during deep penetration), and many women experience chronic abdominal pain and ongoing discomfort—not just during their period.

This is because the uterus becomes painful due to heavy and continuous bleeding, along with uterine enlargement. The patient may feel as though she is carrying additional weight or pressure, making it difficult to jump, make sudden movements, or even walk for relatively long distances. The uterus is larger and filled with blood.

Therefore, we always recommend seeking early medical evaluation at the onset of any unusual or painful symptoms, rather than relying on painkillers that may not be effective. We also advise choosing a comprehensive medical center and an experienced physician who uses the latest diagnostic technologies, especially after any cesarean or surgical procedure, since symptoms may be similar but the underlying conditions can differ.
