HIFU: A Promising Treatment for Adenomyosis

HIFU: A Promising Treatment for Adenomyosis

Continuing with the treatment options for adenomyosis:
We’ve previously discussed medical or hormonal treatment and interventional radiology. Today, we introduce another method:

3️⃣ HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound):
This is a non-invasive ultrasound-based imaging device. Nothing is inserted into the patient’s body.
It relies on using MRI to locate the adenomyotic lesions in the uterus, followed by applying high-frequency focused ultrasound waves (HIFU waves), which generate thermal energy that destroys the adenomyotic tissue.

This new treatment method has several advantages, as it involves no surgical incision or anesthesia. 📌
However, it is not suitable for patients who:

  • Suffer from widespread endometriosis in the pelvic area,
  • Have adhesions between the intestines and the uterus,
  • Or have an abdominal surgical scar wider than 10 mm.

Side effects of HIFU are rare and may include minor skin burns, but most are mild.

HIFU and Pregnancy: 🙏
Patients with adenomyosis treated with HIFU and who wish to conceive have shown high pregnancy rates and high live birth rates. 👌

There are many treatment options for adenomyosis — so far, we’ve covered three types.
What’s most important is to discuss and choose the best treatment based on your medical history, current health condition, and tolerance for the treatment method.

📌 Early intervention always helps prevent outcomes like hysterectomy.
That’s why we advise any young girl at the start of menstruation who suffers from obesity, diabetes, or whose mother has a history of obesity, diabetes, uterine enlargement, or fibroids:

📌 Early control of the disease is possible through healthy eating and regular exercise,
as they help reduce estrogen levels, which contribute to the development of adenomyosis.
