If you have a fibroid and get pregnant… should we watch and wait, or intervene
During pregnancy, every step has to be carefully considered — especially when a fibroid is involved!
Not every case requires intervention, and the golden rule is:
Your safety and the baby’s safety come first.
💊 First line: Medication
In many cases, we can start with light, safe pain relievers.
The goal is to ease the pain, reduce inflammation, and calm the uterus a bit.
But even these medications are used cautiously, must be prescribed by a doctor, and shouldn’t be used for long — especially after the seventh month.
⚠️ Even if something seems small, talk to your doctor. There’s no such thing as “it’s nothing” during pregnancy.
What about surgery?
In some cases, surgery might be necessary during pregnancy — usually in the second trimester if the fibroid is very large and causing problems.
But there’s one condition:
The surgery should not enter the uterine cavity to protect the baby, and laparoscopy is usually the go-to method in such cases.
