Causes of Adenomyosis

What are the causes of adenomyosis?

1️⃣ Genetic Factors: The disease can be inherited from the mother, grandmother, or other relatives who have had the condition.

2️⃣ Multiple Pregnancies and Frequent Childbirths: These can contribute to the development of the disease. For example, having multiple C-sections or frequent pregnancies may lead to repeated stretching and trauma to the uterine muscle, which could play a role in the onset of adenomyosis.

3️⃣ Previous Uterine Surgeries such as C-sections or fibroid removal: If these procedures are not done with high precision in specialized centers, unfortunately, a woman may be treated for one condition and end up with another, more serious one.

4️⃣ Incorrect IUD Insertion: This can cause perforation of the uterus.

5️⃣ Improper Uterine Curettage after Miscarriage: This may lead to adenomyosis.

6️⃣ Estrogen Exposure: Yes, you can be exposed to high levels of estrogen, either from internal sources (produced by the body) or external sources (such as hormonal medications, hormone replacement therapy, cosmetics, or perfumes), all of which can increase the risk of developing the condition.

7️⃣ Inflammation: Chronic inflammation in the uterus may play a significant role in the development and onset of adenomyosis, as inflammatory factors contribute to the breakdown of the natural barrier between the endometrium and the uterine muscle, allowing endometrial tissue to invade the muscle layer.
